CASA DE LA CULTURA
This logo (Imagotype) was initially a proposal for La Casa de la Cultura (Cancun’s Center of Culture - located downtown) in 1999. I was requested to do so by the then Director Juan José Morales. (RIP).
When I showed him the roughs (done then on Corel Draw) he told me I had made a mistake, that the correct Spanish was “La Casa de LA Cultura” – I had omitted the second “LA” and written “La Casa de Cultura”. I told him that it could easily be fixed.
He asked me to leave him the roughs and that he would get back to me later.
Later that same year I entered two paintings into a local art competitión - the 7a Muestra de Artes Plásticas de Cancún where I was surprised to win a place, mention and diploma for an abstarct pastel painting. On doing so I received a handshake from the Director Juan José but after that episode I never heard from him or spoke with him again.
Sixteen years later, in 2015, during my absence from Cancun (2012-2017) the logo surfaced (from the Center’s archives I imagine) and since then has been used by the Institution. No complaints . . . I'm rather pleased although I would love to redesign the logo according to present standards . . . and yes, add the "LA"!
